There is a conflict between 6.1 [basic.pre] bullet 5.4 and 9.4.2 [dcl.contract.res] paragraph 1.

Proposed resolution (approved by CWG 2026-10-16):

  1. Change in 6.1 [basic.pre] bullet 5.4 as follows:

    Every name is introduced by a declaration, which is a
    • ...
    • identifier in a result-name-introducer in a postcondition assertion (9.4.2 [dcl.contract.res]),
    • ...

  2. Change in 9.4.2 [dcl.contract.res] paragraph 1 as follows:

    The result-name-introducer of a postcondition-specifier is a declaration. The result-name-introducer introduces the identifier as the name of a result binding of the associated function. ...
